WHERE WILL MY HORSE PHOTOSHOOT TAKE PLACE?

We come to you. So if you stable your horse at home, then we will come to your home.  Or if they are stabled at a yard, then we will come to the yard.  If however, you would like the shoot somewhere special – a hack that you and your horse frequent or another special location – just let us know.  But please be aware that we may have to gain special permission if you want the shoot on someone else’s property other than where the horse is stabled.

HOW LONG DOES AN EQUINE PHOTOSHOOT LAST?

Normally around 90 minutes to two hours for one or two horses, with an owner. This will allow enough time to move around within your location, and for clothing and tack changes. We want to keep things as fun and relaxed as possible for you and your horse, so we don’t rush things,

IF THE WEATHER IS BAD ON THE DAY OF MY PHOTOSHOOT?

The weather is one of those unpredictable things here in the UK. The forecasters can get it wrong (as we know from the 1986 hurricane!): in the space of just one day, things can change from heavy showers to glorious sunshine in as little as an hour! In light rain, we will normally go ahead and dodge the showers. If it looks like torrential rain, then we may decide to postpone the shoot. On a windy day, we can find some more sheltered spots to take photographs and actually use the wind to our advantage to create a bit of drama!

We will contact you a couple of days prior to the shoot (after assessing the weather) and, if it looks like rain, we can either reschedule or go ahead regardless and risk getting wet! Damp days should not be discounted for the photo shoots as the soft light that results from cloud and drizzle can produce some beautiful portraits. It’s a common misconception that the day must be sunny and bright to be suitable for a photo shoot.

WHAT IF DON'T WANT TO BE IN THE PHOTOGRAPHS?

Most owners want some photographs with their horse, and we think it’s great to capture the bond you have with them – they are, after all, part of your family. So even if you are camera shy, we suggest at least having a few shots together. We can also focus more on getting great headshots of your horse, along with some liberty shots of your horse in the field.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE MY HORSE FOR THE PHOTOSHOOT?

Of course you’ll want to get them looking their best! So we suggest that you bath your horse the morning of your shoot, then keep them stabled until Chris arrives. We will usually use a halter for some photographs and a bridle for others. So a clean halter (ideally black or brown leather or a neutral colour like blue or brown) and a clean bridle is important. You can also have a saddle handy if you’d like some ridden shots. Please also have a few treats to hand to keep the horse attentive during the shoot.
