First impression – The best impression. Profile Image Photography tips

Last week I had the honour to talk in front of a group of small business owners on a workshop run by the lovely Faye Smith at Keep Your Fork PR & Marketing.  Her Brand Booster workshops focused on different elements of promoting your business and this particular sector was highlighting the importance of image and entitled “Your personal style, image & photos”. With a little introduction from Faye and a hour on personal style & image from Jane at True Colours Studio, I talked to the attendees at True Colours Image Consultancy’s Sheffield studio about what makes a good or bad profile image and about how the first impression is the best one. We spoke about how a holiday snap shot as your Twitter avatar or Facebook business profile was perhaps not the impression you want someone to leave your page with. A professional image with professional lighting and tips on how to stand etc all make the difference between someone viewing your profile briefly and someone coming back again and again. I also let the attendees into a few little photography secrets! It was a lovely group and I so enjoyed the morning talking to them all.  I […]

Food Photography – Hotel Van Dyk Xmas Menu

Just recently I was asked to do the food photography for Hotel Van Dyk 2012 Xmas menu. Now anybody who knows me would not be surprised to hear that this is one of my favourite types of shoot, and why not – photography and food…… Bliss. Sam has been the Chef at Hotel Van Dyk for many years now, and for those of you who have never eaten there before, his meals are just fantastic. This selection of dishes he has created for this years Xmas menu are no exception. As he kept bringing me these incredible plates full of gorgeous food it was torture to not dive in and eat the lot. But I managed to hold off until the last dish was brought through, before asking for a sneaky taste of a few of the dishes. I can honestly say that, of the dishes I tasted (no I wasn’t that greedy to try them all), they were just delicious. The steak in particular was just incredible. So if you’re looking for somewhere to treat yourself over Xmas, give Hotel Van Dyk a call and book in for their Xmas special. Tell ‘em I sent you and, well, they’ll […]

The Chrysalis Photography Van

We’ve recently invested in a fantastic new company van. We’ve gone for a black colour choice to give us a great backdrop for some of our black and white images to be printed against. It also allows us to stand out a little more than your average ‘white van man’. We would like to send special thanks to NorthStar Signs for doing a fantastic job on the wrapping. It really does look great! [imagebrowser id=1]   Our van is a great addition for our clients too. First it gives us the ability to bring our portable studio to the place of your choice if you want your photographs taking in a certain location. Also, for our commercial clients it means we can collect and return any products you would like us to shoot in our studio.   We hope you like our choice of images. Perhaps you know somebody who would like a set of High Dynamic Range (HDR) images creating of their vehicle? Be sure to wave if you see us tootling down the street – You won’t miss us!

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals ‘Thank You’ Awards 2011

Held on 10th November 2011, this Annual NHS Awards ceremony celebrates the incredible work that the doctors, nurses and other staff do in Sheffield Hospitals. It doesn’t matter whether they work in front line care, behind the scenes or are involved in work that helps motivate or train staff as long as that person or team has contributed towards the service above and beyond what could normally be expected. These otherwise unsung heroes were nominated by their peers for a range of special awards including ‘Gift of Time’ volunteer, Customer Care and Lifetime Achievement. The ceremony was hosted by TV personality Paul Ross who always makes us giggle and this was our 4th year as commercial photographers at the Sheffield event and we were honoured to be invited again. It’s always a special night for us as we’ve experienced first hand the fantastic work these people do every day. Congratulations to all the winners and all who were nominated – you truly are an inspiration to us all.

Our New Home

We are settling into our new home, a Photography Studio in Dunston, Chesterfield after closing down our operations in the Kiddicare Superstore in Peterborough. We’ll miss our Cambridgeshire clients dearly but the time is right to bring our business a little closer to home. We do hope some of them will come and visit us in the not too distant future! Our new Photography Studio is conveniently located for both Sheffield and Chesterfield and that’s one of the many reasons why we chose it. To get to our Chesterfield Photography Studio from Sheffield you simply head down the A61 for about 10 minutes. Once you reach the first big roundabout in Chesterfield you turn right, following the sign for Dunston. Our Studio is in Dunston Hole Farm, which a right turn just after the Dunston Hall Garden Centre and down a pretty country lane. Located in a delightfully restored 17th Century Stone Farm Building with an equestrian centre as our neighbour, our studio is ideal for families to have a fun and relaxed portrait session in a peaceful setting, without the hassle of inner-city parking. Chesterfield has some of the most beautiful countryside surrounding it, which is another great reason for choosing to […]
