First impression – The best impression. Profile Image Photography tips

Last week I had the honour to talk in front of a group of small business owners on a workshop run by the lovely Faye Smith at Keep Your Fork PR & Marketing.  Her Brand Booster workshops focused on different elements of promoting your business and this particular sector was highlighting the importance of image and entitled “Your personal style, image & photos”. With a little introduction from Faye and a hour on personal style & image from Jane at True Colours Studio, I talked to the attendees at True Colours Image Consultancy’s Sheffield studio about what makes a good or bad profile image and about how the first impression is the best one. We spoke about how a holiday snap shot as your Twitter avatar or Facebook business profile was perhaps not the impression you want someone to leave your page with. A professional image with professional lighting and tips on how to stand etc all make the difference between someone viewing your profile briefly and someone coming back again and again. I also let the attendees into a few little photography secrets! It was a lovely group and I so enjoyed the morning talking to them all.  I […]

Trash the Dress

You buy that dress that you’ve dreamt of all your life, you wear it for one day and then you have it cleaned before putting in the attic, in a box, never to be seen again. Brides can now ‘Trash’ the dress, Rock the Frock or Cherish the Dress – a new style of photo shoot that is a great excuse to wear that beautiful dress one more time.  Whether it be a few weeks or months after the wedding – or a few years down the line, how lovely to feel like a bride again.   Unlike the original Trash the Dress idea, where the bride has been known to set fire to the dress, rip it or something equally dramatic, our version is a little more tame. However – we’re always open to suggestions and up for a challenge!     Natalie didn’t trash her dress exactly… it just got a bit wet!!  Her wedding took place last October of last year and unfortunately we were unable to attend the actual wedding date. However she contacted us a few months later with the idea that she would like some images taken at Padley Gorge – a place very special to […]

Baby Ayva’s story

We had a very emotional viewing session yesterday, which also brought tears to my eyes. What followed is one of the most amazing testimonials we have ever been sent: “Some journeys start with a step, others start with a single breath. On the seventh of September 2011 our eighth baby was born, she was the only one who ever cried, all the others were born sleeping. Ayva was born too soon; she was supposed to be arrive at Christmas, delivered by the Cedar Senai hospital in Los Angeles. Instead, her birthday was witnessed in Chesterfield, and the first few weeks were spent in neonatal in Leeds and Chesterfield. Ayva still hasn’t been home to her new house in Beverly Hills. She has never slept in her nursery, and she has never met her Godparents. The two car journeys and ten-hour flight have been delayed until June. The reason I share this is because eight months along Ayva can breathe on her own, her heart can beat independently of any machine and most of all she is a baby who can smile and Chris was the person to capture that moment. So therefore, as I summarise our journey know this. Some […]

Dog Photography in the studio – Alfie the Weimaraner

So our new website is finally up and running, and although we have a lot still to do on it, we’re already pleased with the improvements. It’s been a busy few months for us, both with our new photography studio in Chesterfield, the new website, wedding fayre season, and as if that didn’t keep us busy enough we decided to do some dog photography as well. What is it they say – never work with animals and children!?! Well that’s exactly what we’ve been doing, and it’s been great fun. So to start the ball rolling with the new blog we thought we would share a couple of images of this gorgeous Weimaraner dog, called Alfie. Bless him, he was a bit lively in the studio to begin with, but would do anything for a bit of cheese….yes CHEESE!?! Is that common for dogs to like cheese, I don’t know. Hope you like the images anyway. If you or any of your friends and family have a pet dog, cat, cameleon, budgie, stick insect…. you get the idea, then do please tell them that our Chesterfield studio is now open for pet photography. Pet’s become very much a part of […]
