Dog Photography

They are one of the family.

They can also be your best friend.

And they’re always there for you.

What better way to celebrate this very special bond than with a professional photo shoot capturing all the love and emotion you feel for your pet. We are a dog friendly studio based in Chesterfield, Derbyshire.

Dog portraits also make ideal gifts for an animal lover – and a set of stunning prints of their beloved pet really does make a fantastic present. A Chrysalis Dog Photography studio session produces images with a contemporary look and feel, as we adapt backgrounds and lighting to show your pet at his very best. But we also understand that you and your dog will be most relaxed when at home, or out on a favourite walk, which is why we also offer the option of home or location photography for the same session cost*.

Chrysalis Dog Photography will give you lasting images of treasured moments with your special companion. Browse through some common questions below to read more about our dog photography services.

If you would like to chat through any aspect of the session, please give us a call at our studio on 01246 451555. Or, fill in our enquiry form and we’ll call you back.

Why not take a look at our Dog Photography Gallery or  browse through the FAQ’s below

Should I get my dog groomed beforehand?

This is your choice, certainly if you want a well-groomed look for a show dog, or have a long-haired breed, then it could be worth the extra effort to ensure your pet is really looking his or her best. Otherwise giving them a wipe clean, particularly around the eyes where dirt can accumulate, and giving them a good brush are often enough to bring up a glossy coat and wet nose.

What should I bring on the day?

We encourage people to bring any favourite toys, sticks, balls or other items that the dog likes to play with, as we often use these as props to give you a variety of photo compositions. Do also bring any favourite food treats, as these will help through the session to keep the dog from getting bored in the studio.
If we are doing a location shoot it is a good idea to bring waterproofs, also a towel, poop bags, the dog’s lead and water with a bowl.

Can you do some photography in the studio, and some on location?

Opting for a combination of both studio and location dog photography means you do get a more varied selection of posed and natural outdoor images. This can often better capture your pet’s unique personality and idiosyncrasies which you know and love them for. We are always happy to compile a custom package according to individual requirements, so please call us at our studio on 01246 451 555 to chat through what you would like.

Please note that location shoots are weather dependent.

My dog is from a shelter and nervous of new people, is that a problem?

If your pet has a particularly nervous disposition or is uncomfortable in new environments, then a photo shoot at home or a familiar location will probably be best. Our photographer is very animal-friendly and will spend some time with you helping the dog to relax. Bringing some of your dog’s favourite treats or toys will help too.

I have more than one dog, can you do groups?

Yes, our photographer will divide the session accordingly to get individual portraits, or focus on group shots if you prefer. Just let our photographer know what you want from the session.

Can you do motion shots, when my dog’s running or playing?

Yes, it is a little trickier for the camera but our photographer is highly skilled and has captured some amazing moments of animals at play. Location shoots offer a lot of scope for different activities, compositions and landscapes and are usually great fun for all.

Please note that location shoots are dependent on the weather.

Do you do any other pet photography?

Yes, we can also do cat & kitten photography, horse photography, pet bird photography, and any other furry four-legged friends that are tame enough for you to handle. We don’t do Horse Photography in the studio but since we are based on a farm/livery centre we have the perfect location for capturing some fantastic outdoor images for you.

*Home or location photography is available, including our travel, within the 2 hour photoshoot session. For sessions outside the Chesterfield/Sheffield area please call us for a session price.
