As members of a National Professional Photographers Group, run by Internationally renowned & respected Photographer Mark Cleghorn, we had the opportunity to submit a couple of our images for their annual awards. This year the categories were: Family Pets Teens Under 5’s Open I am chuffed to pieces to announce that, as well as being as finalist in two other categories, Chris has been awarded 2015 under 5’s Portrait Photographer, AND 2015 Teen Portrait Photographer!!! We are thrilled to say the least. As if that wasn’t amazing enough we have also been handed one of only 2 awards in the country for achieving a 5 Star Studio status. After 8 years of incredible hard work and sacrifice this award is particularly special to us, as it recognises the highest quality of photography experience we aim to provide to every one of our clients. The winning images are shown below. The clients of both winning images receive a fantastic photography prize worth up to £500. Credit must also go to Makeup Artist Jenn Edwards for the fabulous hair and delightfully natural makeup on Connie’s image. To experience Chrysalis Photography for yourself […] Read more!
The January snow has well and truly arrived at Renishaw Hall today, so we took five minutes out to pop into the gardens and take a couple of photographs. Shame the light wasn’t brilliant but it was nice to see the gardens again. We can’t wait to see the snowdrops and then the Bluebells soon after. The statues are all wrapped up for the winter to protect them from the frost v Mr Snail didn’t seem too bothered by the snow. The fountain water has almost frozen over. More of the beautiful statues tucked up for winter I found the hare’s, that usually gather in a circle in the spring to stare up at the moon, lined up just outside the hall, looking like they were begging to come in for a warm. A new year and new beginnings. We love having expecting couples in the studio. It’s all so new and so exciting. So when Stacey and John entered the studio just after Christmas there was such a lovely buzz around them and it’s always so infectious. As a little gift for Stacey, John had asked us to book our Makeup artist for the session to give Stacey a proper pamper and get her feeling glorious – not that she needed much help to be fair – and the results were really stunning. Not all of our expectant mums want to go completely nude, however Stacey is a very fit young lady and very body confident, so had no problems with having images as nature intended. Well done Stacey and good luck for the birth – we look forward to welcoming your little one back in the studio once he/she has arrived. If you are currently expecting and would like to have images similar to these we suggest that the session takes place between 30 & 35 weeks. At this time you are almost at full capacity (!) and not yet feeling uncomfortable. Call us on 0114 4040898 for more details. Read more!
Happy New Year to to all our customers, friends, family and first-time visitors. We’ll start 2015 with this little cutie. Bella popped in just to say hi just before Xmas with her mum, Debra, an old customer and now friend from our previous Dunston Studio. How could we resist letting this gorgeous little puppy onto the studio floor. She loved all the attention and was into everything as you can see. An indoor shoot at the studio is ideal for little pooches, but we are also ideally placed at Renishaw Hall & Gardens for stunning outdoor shoots with bigger dogs too. If you are interested in bringing your beloved canine friend to see us, please feel free to CONTACT US for a chat. Read more!
So we’ve just had another wonderful Cake Smash with another of our lovely wedding clients from two years ago. Claire and Matthew had a beautiful wedding at Mosborough Hall back in 2012. Here they are pictured back then, looking into the distance at their uncertain but exciting future together. Little did they know on that fantastic day, that a few years later they would be smiling and laughing whilst watching us at work once again – this time with their beautiful little girl, Freya, running around our studio. Beautiful Freya all clean and looking pretty, posing beautifully for us knowing that any minute she would be able to get her hands on a lovely big sticky cake! It’s not often mums let their children play with food – but Freya’s cake smash was an exception. Our cake smash photography sessions are not just a cake smash. In fact that’s usually the very last thing we do in the photo session. Before all the mess starts we love to create timeless portraits of the children. 1 year old is a lovely time of life for photography, as these images demonstrate. If you would like to book […] Read more!
A lovely young lady arrived at the studio recently with her grandma for a makeover shoot and we were delighted at her transformation. Victoria Roberts transformed her with fantastic fashion hair and makeup and Kelsey had chosen perfect clothes for the session. Once her make up was done, she had changed into her chosen outfit and stepped onto the cove she became a confident and slightly cheeky blonde bombshell. A pleasure to photograph and great entertainment. With her grandma watching on from the sofas she strutted her stuff for the entire session and we have created a beautiful set of fashion style images for her, and her grandma, to treasure. If you would like more details on our makeover shoots, do CONTACT US and we will be happy to chat with you! Read more!
A few months ago we were asked by UK company, Ortus, to produce some studio and location images for their flagship product – a pre-hospital defibrillation unit made by Corpuls. This incredibly clever box of gadgetry contains all the required ECG diagnostics needed to monitor the health of a patient, from incident though to hospital, plus a state of the art defibrillator as well if required. All data from the unit is sent via a live feed to the hospital, to allow for additional remote support, as well as completely briefing the hospital staff on the status of the patient ahead of their arrival. Not only is this kit incredibly powerful but it’s also the most lightweight and portable device on the market. The kit easily splits down or clips back together to allow for a variety of scenarios. We were delighted to be chosen to capture the commercial photography of this life-saving unit, and rose to the challenge of showing how clever and flexible it is. Our studio photography allowed us to capture in detail the diagnostics leads and pack components. We then went on location to show how the unit really excels at the scene of an incident – the […] Read more!
Every year MacMillian run their coffee mornings all over the country with volunteers baking cakes, making tea and washing the pots. All the profits go straight to MacMillan for their fabulous cause. This year Renishaw Hall hosted a coffee morning and attendees were privileged to take their tea and cake in the Hall spilling out onto the private terrace. A wonderful morning enjoyed by all and for a wonderful charity. Read more!
So, last week I booked to have a well-earned day off and travel to London to visit one of my oldest and dearest friends, Geoff. What did we decide to do on this day off?? Take photographs of course! As crazy as this may sound I was actually extremely excited to spend a day re-discovering the joy of taking photographs just for the hell of it. As much as I love my job, and I do REALLY love my job. The freedom, creativity and enjoyment one gets from taking photographs as a hobby, can become overshadowed by the requirement for a ‘work’ photo shoot to be of a ‘professional’ standard. This day off was my chance to actually relax and have fun with the camera. So there we were, wandering around the streets of London, clicking away at whatever caught our eye. I had initially intended to bring the full kit along – My recently purchased Canon 5D mkIII, my full range of lenses, tripod, flash heads, the works. Instead I brought just two ‘light’ lenses in my rucksack, and my Macbook, to work in the train there and back. This is where I get to the point of this blog. Geoff, having […] Read more!
Since the Cake Smash Photography trend is gaining momentum again, we thought we would give it a try. One of our loyal customers, who had already trusted us with both their wedding and their newborn baby images, was happy to bring their daughter in for the shoot to celebrate her first birthday. Ivy was fantastic to photograph even as a newborn, and her image can still be found on our gallery page smiling away while fast asleep in her first few days of life. At 1 year old she was still a joy, and I couldn’t resist capturing a few B&W images of her first before we started on the cake: We just love Ivy’s expression and beautiful big eyes in this image. So onto the cake smash. We went for a pink theme, which seemed to work great with the cake. Ivy didn’t need too much encouragement to get stuck into it, and we’re chuffed with the results. If you know anybody with children reaching their first birthday, then why not treat them to a cake smash photo shoot with us. Gift vouchers are available on request. Read more!
“Well what can I say but you have come up trumps on this request, the pictures Chris has taken are perfect” We were recently contacted by a lovely gentleman, by the name of John Norman, regarding an unusual request for a photograph. A request we were only too pleased to help with. In years gone by John’s father Eric had worked at Renishaw Hall, where we now have our exclusive studio, and had marvelled at the beautiful carpets of Bluebells that covered the ground of it’s stunning woodland gardens near Eckington. When he sadly passed away a few years ago, it was requested that his ashes were scattered amongst the bluebells. A request that was gladly granted by the estate. John and Liz now know that Eric is in a place remembered fondly and that they have somewhere that they can visit and pay their respects. As the couple live on the other side of the Pennines in Oldham, they wanted a picture of bluebells to have at home to help them remember every day, rather than just on the rare occasions that they were able to visit the Derbyshire stately home. This is where Chrysalis Photography […] Read more!
Our usually quiet and serene place of work was transformed today into a noisy, fun filled event, packed with cars and car enthusiasts for one day only, when the Chesterfield Rotary club descended on Renishaw Hall for its annual car festival. Cars & bikes from all over the area poured down the drive and displayed themselves on the lawns in front of the Hall. Hot dogs, bouncy castles and merry-go-rounds kept the kids busy while the adults drooled over the hundreds of vehicles. Not wanting to miss the photographic opportunity to get some images of the vehicles we popped out of the studio with camera whilst the sun was shining. We’ve put together a slide show with a few of our favourites here for you. If you have a vintage vehicle that you would like to have some professional images taken of in a beautiful location such as Renishaw Hall, please do give us a call on 0114 4040898. Happy Motoring! It’s particularly lovely for me to capture the wedding day of a couple that I have already had chance to get to know. The recent wedding of Pete and Sophie was a perfect example of this. They were first introduce to me through their close friends, Neil and Jess, after they had been to us a number of for family portraits with their little boy. This was back in the day when we had a strong studio presence in Peterborough, so a short trip from Bedfordshire was easy. However, when Pete and Soph announced their engagement it was not long before they dragged them two hours up to our Chesterfield studio, where they combined an up-to-date family shoot, a wedding consultation and a weekend away. Pete and Sophie are a wonderful couple and so I was thrilled when they chose me as their wedding photographer. They even came up a second time, with Neil and Jess, and we spent a lovely couple of hours at Padley Gorge, for an engagement shoot. So once you’ve spent that much time together they stop being clients and feel much more like friends, making their wedding day even more special for me. They’re on […] Read more!
Another exciting day for Allie and I at our wonderful new Renishaw Hall studio – we’ve had all the wooden doorway and bars removed and completely glazed. We’re thrilled with how it looks now. Not only does it bring a huge amount of natural light into the studio, and allows passers-by to see inside, but also gives us another gorgeous window location for our portrait photography. I’m putting in a late night editing tonight, with the wedding season upon us, but I couldn’t resist taking 5 minutes away from the screen to get a photograph of the studio before the light goes. The next stage is to swap the middle glass on the left arch to a glazed door, to give us a welcome reception area. We must say a special thank you to John and Malc at Renishaw Hall for grafting so hard on this today. Here’s a snapshot of the old door to show the difference – those bars were not very inviting were they? Read more!
